Who are we?

Worldstar is administered by IOM Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of the The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) on behalf of the World Packaging Organisation.  The registered address is 297 Euston Road, London NW1 3AD. 

IOM3 is a Data Controller in respect of the personal information that we process in connection with our business and services and those of our subsidiaries. In this notice, references to “we” “us” or “our” are references to IOM3.

How do we collect information from you?

When you register to attend events, registering for awards and  registering for awards orders, the online forms are used to collect personal and contact details from you to allow us to register you in the correct manner. 

What personal data do we process?

We collect and process various categories of personal information depending on how you interact with us. We limit the collection of the information and processing to that necessary for us to achieve one or more legitimate purposes as identified in this notice.

The personal data we collect may include the following:

• Basic personal information, including name
• Contact information including email address, phone number
• Online profile and activity information including Internet Protocol (IP) address, location co-ordinates, website searches and visits.

We do not collect or store any financial data via our website. All financial transactions relating to membership fees or event/course registration are performed directly via a secure online payment gateway provided by SagePay. A copy of the SagePay Security Policy is available at

How is this information used and who do we share it with?

We use your information to administer the WorldStar Awards events and register you as a delegate. The lawful basis of processing is performance of a contract.

We will not sell your details to any third party for their own or any marketing purposes. 

The online awards registration system is provided and supported by Eventsforce Solutions Ltd, who acts as a Data Processor and has its own Privacy Notice. The Eventsforce Privacy Policy can be viewed here

Your name and company information may be shared with other delegates at an event that you attend, on an event delegate list, the Award Organiser of your national competition and the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) Executive Committee, but you can opt out of this if you wish.

Delegates registered on the event registration system prior to 2018 will be contacted about events that may be of interest to them. This processing fulfils our legitimate interests in promoting the WorldStar Packaging Awards.   When you register for an event, you will be given the option to decline future communications.

We use an email communication system provided by Campaignmaster, who acts as a Data Processor, to send out emails and your name and email address will be stored on that system’s database. Any emails you receive about our events via Campaignmaster will allow you to opt out of any further communications.

When you visit our website, we use Google Analytics to collect standard internet log information and details of behaviour patterns. The website records your IP address and is used only for statistical purposes and to monitor trends in website use.

How long will we keep your data

Financial information related to your registration will be retained for a statutory period of seven years. We will retain your personal details for a maximum period of seven years.


We use organisational, administrative, technical and physical security measures to safeguard your personal information and help ensure that it is processed promptly, accurately and completely. We require Service Providers who act as Data Processors on our behalf to safeguard your personal information and only use it for the purposes we specify.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, update, erase, change or correct your personal information.

• Withdraw your consent for our use of your information, where our processing is based on your consent
• Restrict and/or object to the use of your personal information
